Breaking Free from Limiting Beliefs
Jan 17, 2025Breaking Free from Limiting Beliefs: My Journey to Self-Discovery
For most of my life, I lived within invisible walls—a box made of limiting beliefs that kept me small, compliant, and afraid to dream big. These beliefs weren’t chosen by me; they were handed down through the world around me. For years, I didn’t even realize they were there, silently dictating the boundaries of my life.
The Turning Point
I was working in sales and real estate at the time. On the surface, I had a successful life. I had a steady income, a penthouse apartment, and hobbies like dancing that I pursued on the side. But deep down, I felt a growing emptiness. My work environment—filled with constant pressure to hit targets and exude confidence—was eating away at my soul.
One day, after a particularly long day, I walked up the stairs to my top-floor apartment. I reached the door, and I just collapsed. Sitting there, I began to weep—not just a few tears but an uncontrollable flood. For someone who hadn’t cried in over a decade, this was monumental. It was as though every suppressed emotion, every unacknowledged fear, came rushing out all at once.
That moment marked the beginning of a transformation. I realized I couldn’t keep living this double life. Something had to change.
Letting Go of Limiting Beliefs
What beliefs were holding me back? Looking back, it’s clear that one of the most powerful was this: You need financial stability to be happy. For years, I clung to my job as my security blanket, believing it was the only way to ensure my safety and worth. When I finally let go of that belief, I discovered something life-changing: happiness and purpose aren’t tied to external circumstances.
Another belief I faced was the idea that my dreams were secondary—that they could only exist on the sidelines of my “real” life. I was wrong. By stepping into my dreams fully—teaching dance, building communities, and creating spaces where others could thrive—I discovered my true potential.
Steps Toward Freedom
Breaking free from limiting beliefs wasn’t easy, but here’s what worked for me:
-
Listening to My Inner Voice
That moment of collapse was my body and mind screaming for change. I learned to pay attention to these signals and trust my gut instincts. -
Reframing Fear
I had to learn to view fear not as a stop sign but as an invitation. Every time I felt afraid, I asked myself: What’s the worst that could happen? Usually, the answer was far less terrifying than I imagined. -
Taking Action
I started small. Saying no to projects that didn’t align with my values, prioritizing my dreams, and even quitting my job were all steps in the right direction. These actions built momentum. -
Finding Purpose in What I Loved
I shifted my focus from making money to creating meaningful experiences—in my dance school, my music, and eventually in my spiritual work. -
Letting Go of Perfectionism
I had spent years trying to be “the good girl” who excelled at everything. Letting go of that expectation allowed me to embrace my authentic self.
What I’ve Learned
The most important lesson from my journey is this: You are not your limiting beliefs. They are stories, not truths. When you challenge them, you can rewrite the narrative of your life.
Breaking free isn’t about becoming fearless; it’s about finding the courage to act despite fear. It’s about choosing to believe in possibilities rather than limitations. And it’s about creating a life where you can fully embrace who you are—no compromises.
Your Turn
What limiting beliefs are holding you back? Take a moment to write one down and ask yourself: What if this isn’t true? Then, take a small step toward proving it wrong.
